LAFITTE'S PIRATE RUM: The rum story starts in the Caribbean where explorer Christopher Columbus first introduced sugar cane plants in 1493. Sugar cane was then after refined into sugar, and through this process a happy accident occurred. That's when fermented molasses, the discarded byproduct of sugar cane, was converted into a sweet alcohol called rum.

Inexpensive to make and easy to transport, rum quickly became a "Bonafide" boom to the Caribbean economy. As a staple export around the world, barrels of rum were a mainstay on ships sailing the pirate-infested waters of the Caribbean. Jean Lafitte paid no allegiance to any government, pillaging and plundering Spanish vessels at will, keeping the rum for himself, and selling it to the grateful citizens of New Orleans at discount prices.

QUARTERMASTER: On a pirate ship, the Quartermaster was second in command, responsible for distributing supplies, maintaining discipline, and overseeing the day-to-day operations, including dividing plunder. DEAD MEN: "Dead Men Tell No Tales" is a chilling prophecy or warning offered by pirates to those who braved the seas. Its expressed the speaker's meaning in that once someone is dead, they can no longer communicate, hence killing someone is the best way to keep them quiet. A standard phrase, mostly said as an excuse for leaving no survivors.
